Limp mode - The problems begin! :(

Car  172
Hi just coming back from my GF's about 8am this morning and 2mins after I set off the ECU warning light comes on and it's in limp mode..

Can't rev past 3k, was chucking it down so I drove it home like this (about 5mins away). When I get home the revs are going up and down a bit... So I turn off, wait a minute then start it up and the revs are at a constant 2k rpm, what's likely to be the issue here??

I had a decat fitted yeterday and it was running sweet as a nut! Then this morning it's like that!

As per what happened with Ruffstuffs clio, im using this as what happened with his.

His oil level had lowered and caused the car to go into "limp mode".

Check the oil level. Sorry if your oil is on the right level, just happened to Ruffstuff, so i know about that one.

I'll check but would that cause a high idle?

I drove for an hour and it was fine, left it for 30 mins and it bas doing it again!!

Knackered Llambda if the cat' wa changed yesterday?

Is there any water ingress into the engine bay ie. fuse box area?

I had this in mine, after i had washed it (nothing engine wise) it was left for a few hours fault not returned but it was a problem with the throttle pedal which was stored in the computer . it has never returned to this day, *touches wood*

Not sure because it was all running sweet as a nut yesterday, was very pleased with it when the decat was fitted.

I drove it all day and there wasn't a problem, then just 2mins into the journey this morning it all started.

Just a few updates:

1) the engine light is now also on, as well as that electric pulse symbol.
2) If I turn the car off then on again the electric symbol vanishes but the idle is 2k+ but always comes back on after like 10mins
3)Once in limp mode it runs and idles fine bar the poor throttle response + limiter

The fuse box is fine and it all looks dry under the bay! Got to go to Leeds tonight and it's not going to be fun :'(

Someone is coming out from 'Auto Protect' shortly, he should have a code reader I hope.

Previous owner said the TB was replaced before I bought it (it looks spanking too)

this sounds like the potentiometer. if the tb has been changed, it's probably the pedal potentiometer. very common fault.
at least thats the cheaper of the two.

iirc, when mine went renault just knew it was one of the potentiometers and wanted to try one then the other. luckily they got it right first time.

If its had a throttle body then its bound to be throttle pedal or the connection to it. Some people when they test them read it says pedal potentionmeter and get confused and think it throttle body.

I just had a phone call from renault and they said the only fault stored on the ECU was a permanent fault which was the air in-take solarnoid valve, and when they checked it they said it was missing. I presume this is the acoustic valve and they want to charge me £230 to sort it!!!! So i said don't do any of the work and they are just going to charge me for diagnostics.

So am i right in thinking it was probably moisture? As there were no other faults on the ECU and they didn't notice anything strange.

Is it worth getting the code reader off e-bay so in future i can check the fault codes and re-set the ECU light?

Thanks.

got it back today and it seems normal now.

The wire that was connected to the Acoustic valve was unprotected and dangling so it may have been this that got wet!

Just because there nao faults means nothing bar there none showing up as logged.

Personaly get the problem fixed don't just keep clearing the errors codes its one thing that these boxes are going to create more and more.
What is an "Acoustic Valve"?

Best do a search its a valve setup in the IK which was meant to quiten the cars running down a load of people remove them though.

If I don't know what the problem is how do I fix it?

They thought the problem was the acoustic valve missing, should I keep handing them money each time it breaks?

It's totally gone now and funnily enough the weather is dry..

You need to find out what the real issue is has your valve ben removed and the electrics not sorten then if so this if the problem do a search for how to fix it.

Water in the connectros block quite possibly.

Edde,

The valve has been removed, by me.

It's likely the connector that connected to the valve got wet as it was unprotected in the wheel arch. What signals does it send the ECU if it's dis-connected?
