Limp mode, throttle body buzz,

I've read alot about this problem when decelerating for junctions etc i get the light on in centre of dash and limp mode it will clear by restarting the engine but after a couple of goes doing that it put the main eng light on which will not reset! I cleaned the butterfly housing and the inlet manifold 3 months ago and had no probs with it till now doing the same thing! Only ive noticed throttle body buzzing, i've had someone pushing the throttle pedal down slowly with ignition on but the butterfly doesnt move until about half throttle when it jumps to half open! I take it this isnt normal.. any ideas??? Throttle pedal unit or throttle body fault! Cheers . Andy

The TB does "buzz" when at ignition mate yeah. Saying that, it could be a fubard TB :( Can you manually move the butterfly valve ok? (engine off ;)) .

It's a little stiff to open but feels like I'm going against the motor! Don't suppose u know if it's normal for the butterfly to not move for the first half of pedal travel??! Puzzles me, I thought the butterfly shud open as pedal moves!!

That's my thinking just not sure if the pedal is at fault not telling the tb to move or it's the tb not moving when the pedal tells it!!?? Bloomin French!! 50/50 I suppose try n get a cheap tb off eBay

Just been out and listened again it's more of a high pitch electronic whine from throttle body!! And the hammer hasn't made it better!!! ;)

have a look for my throttle potentiometer/tb problems thread. loads of good info in there.

I have a spare TB and Throttle pedal also if you need to borrow or something.

Did u sort out the dead pedal travel problem I sometimes get that from cold!! Might take a look at the lambda sensors! Might take u up on the borrow or something if I can't get anything on eBay. Cheers

  RS RIP
the whine is normal.

it seems that after searching through a lot of threads that the only people who ever cured the Throttle positioning faults/codes have purchased a brand new ecu !?!?

I'm very pissed because mine has been added to the limp-list

Well sadly i've now sold the clio and am back to my old faithful 1.8 diesel escort van!! Oh well. If its of any help it wasnt the throttle body, lambda sensor although that made it run smoother, or the pedal so i'm pretty sure it was like u say the ecu but hey ho not my problem now. Bit of a money pit!! But was bloody good fun when it was on the ball and no christmas tree dash.....:)
