Limp/Safety mode on 172

Ive got a problem when i floor it the car goes into safety mode where the revs drop to about 2k and i cant accelaerate?(the dash light right in the centre comes on-possibly coil light?)
Im having to turn off the engine and switch back on.
Any ideas what could cause it?
Is it a sensor issue or something more major than that?
Ive had it happen a while ago but just recently it happened again- last nite pulled out to overtake another car and was left stuck beside it until id switched off&back on again to get away!

thats one of the sensors isnt it, if i remember right that came up on the list last time when a diagnostic check was done.

yea at the pedal end. perhaps you have a bit of an underlieing fault with it.
