Locking wheel nut help

  500bhp Scoob

The previous owner had alloys on the car, and took them off, but he used the locking wheel nut on one of the steelies that need replaceing, and he dont have the key, neither do i, ive been to 3 tyre places, kwik-fit are one of them, they are usually good about that, as i know the chap in there.

Anybody know a good way to really loosen one, its been put on with a pneumatic air gun, so its not budging easily.

get a slightly bigger socket, and hammer it on, then unwind, simple (ish) or try one of those Gator grip things.

yup and its a wee bit too big for a gaitor grip, 20+mm, tried screwdriver in one of the ledges and hammering the hit out of it to make it budge, still no-go

Anyone?? gotta do it in the next few days as i need to book the re-test on the MOT

Have u tried a local garage?

only other thought it u get a similar locking nut tool, even if it doesnt fit u can hammer it on (thats wot me mate did - tho in his case borrowed the locking nut tool off a mate and runied it lol )

hammer it of using a screwdriver as a sort of chisel or better still get a small cold chisel, but before you do try and loosen it add a bit of heat to it! cos heat helps loosen things up like that(am a plumber and tight joints we heat up with a soldering gun) try it i bet it works!!!

long nose pliers and a pair of mole grips mite do it depening on the tightness of the wheel nut!but get a good pair of pliers done it at work before but not with an air gun!good luck

tried a molegrip round the outer edge of it, it ended up slipping, gonna try the blowtorch theory thou, if not im thinkin bout making a unlocking thing out of some strong tubing n cutting out the bits that go into the 4 inserts n hope for the best.

Anyone ever drilled a nut out before??

if ye go to B&Q im sure they do a screw kit thing that has opposite thread, you screw it into the bolt, and the more it tightens into the bolt, it turns the bolt loose. worth having a pop down to ask them, or try some local tool hire shop.

try some easy outs(you drill a hole in the bolt and the easy out screws into it and winds out the bolt at the same time)

an air chisel always works for me but im guessing you dont have access to one of them.

you could try a hammer and a decent punch to knock it round.

some tools shops now sell sockets designed just for removing locking wheel nuts. they have a screw design in them so they screw on top of the wheel nut and lock on.

is the number on the wheel nut as well as the key itself?(hes lost the key) or can they match the pattern up?

well as its only the one i cant be arsed with forking out mega loads of cash, as the one thats on there at the moment is a bit mangled, ill get a new set.

ill give the blowtorch idea a go, and see what the tooling dept. at work can make up in a day

nice one on the ident of the locking nut wackojacko, if i need the key ill give em a shout. Thanks everyone for the help, if u got anymore ideas ill give em a go
