locking wheel nut nightmare

  Za**** & Xr250R
I have just snapped my locking wheel nut key, now my front wheel's are stuck on i am in the middle of a suspension change i got the back one's done fine as you don't need the wheel's off and now i will have to wait until monday to order a new key and that will take a few day's to come i wouldn't be too bothered but the same thing happened last month to my merc and the wheel's had to be cut off so i'm am a little annoyed :mad::mad:

Any suggestion's ???

is it renault wheel nuts with the spinning outer edge?
if so, yer screwed...

they can be removed you have to split the outer right and whack a socket on them but can take forever

Fortunatly it's just a set of carflow trilock's they don't have the spinning outer edge, i had the one's with the spinning outer edge on my merc i used 3 genuine merc key to remove and they all broke then i had to face fact's they had to be cut off:( , but all the same my wheel's are immaculate i don't want to mark them at all, yeah i thought about whacking a socket around it al give that a bash cheer's.

may have misunderstood but can't you just wait a week or so until you've a new key?

I could wait, but i've put new lowering spring's and shock's on the rear and the front isn't done yet and i need to use the car tomorow so what to do !!!

was just thinking that, if it's still useable as it is, might save you the hassle of having to remove and then replace all of the locking wheel bolts

No point in starting a new thread.
Ive just done the same as the OP, the key has just snapped and my wheels are stuck on. The bolts have the spinning outer ring.
Can I get a new key from Renault or does someone have a spare key about? The key is about a 6 pointed star with a slight curve in each point... Dunno if that makes sence, I will get a photo if it doesnt.

Thanks.

FFS I bet its gunna be expensive to isnt it? Any idea on a price?
Ill give renault a ring in the morning but if its unreasonably priced, I might as well cut the outer ring off and wack a socket on it.

got the same problem with the volvo :( so far it has involved a welder and some bolts and i haven't been able to shift them yet, damn the tossers who airgunned the f*****s on!

I didnt get a lock and wheel nut key when i got my cup. A trip down to local engineers and a welder and nuts involved sorted them out. £20 lighter, but that was a good price.

As for those that have tried it themselves and failed. I watched him do it and he built up a weld first them pushed the nut onto it then welded around. Worth a go . . .

Why has the welding not worked fred?
We have to do it a lot here and it's worked quite well for us.

its getting the weld all the way round that's the problem, they're deep wheel nuts, also to give you an idea how tight they're on, i had to stand on a 2ft breaker bar to move the normal bolts

I had the same problem. The welding worked for me - that's after trying to wack a new socket on them and a number of other things. At one point they were threatening to cut my wheels in half. I can't really help Fred, but to the other guy, try asking someone to weld a new nut on to the locking nuts.
