182 - 1 of the last made
Hi all I'm new here.
a quick intro b4 I get the nitty from the gritty!
Bought my black clio 182 brand new back in October (I think production had already stopped by then) from Jeffries farm car sales near Gatwick with the Cup suspension and spoiler packs as well. It had 24 miles on the clock which I was not too pleased about but the salesman had already given me the keys and disappeared before I could (be bothered to) query it :dapprove: .
About 8 months on and overall a great car. A few niggling faults like the passenger side wing mirror lense (the actual mirror bit!) shakes about in the wing mirror housing at 40mph+ I've put up with it so far as it'll be due for its 12K service in about 2 weeks so I'll get them to tighten up the cables inside it then. Acceleration is pretty good but I like the handling the most and also its kind of unassuming looks where some people try to burn you at lights or speed limit changes and get a surprise when a "clio" is still right up their arse or even overtaken them :rasp: . As for economy well If I put Shell Optimax in I get about 41-41 MPG on a 80 mile round trip trunk road commute driven sensibly. The salesman recommended Tesco Super Unleaded which hardly made a difference.
aaaaanyway the main reason I'm posting is about a month back I was doing 60 down this country road (it was national speed limit BTW!) when a rabbit jumped from the verge on my side of the road and tried to make a dash for the other side of the road, It all happened quite quickly but I had just enough time to decide wether to avoid it (there was no oncoming traffic) by this time I realised it was quite a big rabbit (a Hare?) and thought sod it, and ran the bugger over It made that grinding noise around the wheel that I'm sure some of you are familiar and I looked out the rear view and saw it cartwheeling across the road dead :dead: (I was driving to town and had come back that way a few hours later and it was still lying in the road so I think it was safe to say it was dead). Anyway I carried on driving and just wanted to double check the front was OK as it was a pretty big beast so I pulled over and well see for yourselves
it had cracked the front splitter/spoiler (my second one!!! )
and worse still cracked the bumper, which going on the cost of the splitter is going to cost an arm and a leg. Its also mashed up the inside of the wheel arch and theres a pipe hanging loose now as well.
With the service a couple of weeks away I wanted to get a quote for the repair from my Renault dealer/service place, but I was thinking of getting some of the parts and fitting them myself. At least the splitter that was something like £160 odd including fitting. I was kicking myself afterwards as all it is 8 odd screws and thats it. You don't even need to jack the car up to get under it as my head fit underneath. But the bumper and inner arch are a bit more concerning... Is the bit that's cracked one integral part? Will the whole bumper need replacing? I might not bother if it does.... Lastly anyone selling a splitter/spoiler?? Or know of any places that do them cheap?
Cheers
