Looking At Buying A 1.2...

Had a Clio in at work, for knocking on full lock. Had a look at it and it wants the following work

N/S track arm
O/S and N/S ball joints
N/S and O/S shocker tops
Anti roll bar links dont look too healthy
Front discs and pads are metal to metal
Radiators come out of its brackets but isnt leaking
Both front tyres are bald (17")
Service and Airbag light are on

Its a 1.2 on a Y plate, but is the PH2. Its done 87k, and is in that light blue. Its had a front end at some point because the colour isnt spot on, and the N/S wing is cracked near where it meets the bumper, also the O/S rear is scratched

Good points are its got 17" OZ Superleggeras on it, its lowered abit, and a new catalyst :rasp:

Now im thinking i may aswel get a full 1.2 front subframe for it, as this'll cover most parts apart from the track arm? Also, is that blue a common colour, as bonnet and wings shouldn't be that expensive?

Ok, bearing all this in mind, how much is it worth? I can do all the work myself as im a techy, just didnt really know how much to offer for it?

Wouldn't say its worth a great deal, airbag will be a pain as the comp will want resetting assuming it hasn't blown a side airbag and they've just stiched the seats back up instead of fitting new ones.

Not sure really on price not a lot i'd have thought, £1kish at a guess maybe a bit more? Going to be a couple of hundred in bits to sort out. Airbag reset is £70 for a start, and thats assuming you don't have to get a new seat or anything else.

Any service history?
I wouldn't pay anymore than a grand for it.
Fixed and mint is worth £2300 tops.
Also is it catergorised from the front end bump?

Nope, just fixed it themselves, i know the guy. I assumed airbag is the wires under the seat, as my old 172 used to do it? Got a mate that works at Renault anyway
Service history, i doubt it! Its not a Dynamique, no fogs or anything, i think its an Expression?
Just on a whim i offered them £500, its my mates cousin so he was gonna ring him and see and he'll let me know tomorrow

If its been in a bump and an airbag has been deployed then the light won't go off until the record of the bump has been removed from the airbag computer. Renault can't/won't do it (much more likely the 2nd one from what i've read) but you can get it done.

Worth sweet fa really as far as i'm concerned if its not a dynamique and its in that state. £500 doesn't sound too far off imo.

I just sold a tatty 2002 1.2 16v expression, 55k full service history for £2k. It had seen some paint on the rear quarter at some point which wasn't the best job and had a fair few parking dents, scratches etc.
Theres definate profit in that if you can do the work.

We just traded in our 1.2 dynamique in a '51 plate with 70k on the clock for £1800. It has issues with the engine management light, and a couple of other little niggles, but other than that it was sound.

I'd say - given the condition - £500 is about spot on. £500 or so for the work if you do it yourself? Sell for £1200 / £1500? Sums work that way...
