looking for a 172

morning all - how goes it?

my friend is looking to buy an RS. he's been in my 182 a few times and has finally been bitten by the bug so his fiesta has to go.

he's looking to get a 172 - what sort of spec can he expect to get with a budget of £5k tops?? (age / mileage etc)

he doesn't want the Monaco Blue as that's too similar to his current car and he also doesn't want a Cup as he wants the leather & toys?? any ideas?

based in South Wales if anyone knows of one?

If he doesnt want a Cup, then its just the standard 172. That has all the toys as standard, I think SatNav was one of the very few options.

£5k should get him a fairly decent one, theres not many priced much higher than that (that will actually sell anyway)

Colour wise if he doesnt want Monaco, theres Silver, Black or Flame Red.

Make sure its got service history, the cambelt done and there the dodgy 4k rattle that should have been sorted, too.

For 5K he should be able to pick up a FF 172 2001-02 plate with around 50k on the clock no problem imo .

Have a look on autotrader . There are loads going for 4k -5k but he will most likely have to travel a few miles . If you can get one off here better still as most will probably be better looked after and they seem to underprice them a little on here also .

cheers Revels - i know about whats available with colours / options etc i was just asking what sort of age / mileage he should be looking at for his £5k?

he's been offered a monaco blue 172 ph2 (51 plate) with about 50k on clock for £4,200.

that sounds like a good buy to me but he doesn't want that colour. i think he's mad to pass it up! it did have an aftermarket rear bumper and exhaust too

so do i - i almost bought one in that colour 18 months ago but i held out for 6 months, saved up a bit more and got my Silver 182 instead - love it to bits!

i sold my ph1 172 with 56k on the clock for 4700

The Ph1's do seem to hold their price pretty well compared to the Ph2's . Maybe cos they sold alot less of them and some people prefer the looks of the Ph1 over the Ph2 .

pmd my 172 has all the toys and leather interior mint condition on an 02 plate in black. 34k on the clock, will let it go for £5,200, I am based in Bridgend as well!
