Looking for first 182

  VW Transporter
Hey everyone, just dropping by to say I've been looking through this forum whilst looking for my first 182. I want for a sub 3k toy and have stumbled upon a 2005 182 cup in racing blue. It looks ace. I like the relatively stripped out nature, and despite the odd few dings which the dealer is happy to sort, and a new exhaust that it needs for its MOT (that he's doing) it looks pretty good. 88k on the clock, cambelt done at 80k, it nice.

Odd patch of rust where the rear bumper meets the wheel arch - looks like it's been missing a clip and has rubbed the paintwork - letting in water. I want him to sort this too.

Anyway, I'll update you on any purchase

£3k for a car that needs its belts done in 6 months is ( unless I'm completely missing something ) crazy money.

Ah. At best 12 months ish, but if the car is spot on then so be it.

Not a cheap car but atleast you get to choose where you want the belts done.

Yar belts are due by either mileage (70,000) or age (5 years) Belts plus dephaser will cost you anywhere from £500-£700

I'm not trying to discourage you from buying a Clio RenaultSport in anyway shape or form, just suggesting there are far better options out there. It's a buyers market and in general these cars go for next to nothing. My current Clio 172 Cup cost me £800 (needs belts)

This forum has a network of enthusiasts that can offer you advice that will lead to you making an informed purchase and avoiding common pitfalls. £3k will allow you to buy the mintiest of mint clios that the uk has to offer. Please don't buy some heap from a dealer.

That's really useful insight mate, thanks

I'll probably keep looking then. It's easy to be swayed into heart vs head discussion with yourself, isn't it?
If I could persuade him to do the belts and the rust (which I won't as he's already conceded a bunch of other stuff) would it be worth looking at, at the price (bearing in mind the new exhaust too?)
I probably need to get out and see some more....

I probably need to join the forum properly. I really like the rb, and arctic blue - I guess it's personal preference

Tell me about yours - what did you want for it?

I'd be after £3250 mate.

55 plate ff in racing blue. 67k and belts done march 2015 iirc. Like I say it won't be for sale until I buy my replacement family but sporty  five door car.

One of many pictures

You won't have any issues with the car above and he cleans it every day.Just too look at his reflection, which is a bad thing
I'd highly recommend waiting for it to go up for sale,as soon as he buys his 5 door ford mondeo lx

Yeah normally you have to be a member, be the best £12 you spend tbh mate.

If nothing takes your fancy pop a wanted thread up with the requirements and your location :)

Good luck with the search. Buying cars is an ass.

ok cool, thanks for confirming :)
yeah its a pain as you get close to something you see that you (think you) want and heart takes over. I've made some errors over the years through that and that alone.
eg JCW Mini Cooper - didnt drive straight and I'd put it down to torque steer. it had other underlying problems
v5 2.3 Toledo - a bargain at £250, then immediately had to replace the head gasket. this was only for a toy to take to Le Mans. Ouch.
Want to get this one right.

Isn't it due at 15yrs? According to my mate at Renault
Does your mate at Renault sweep the showroom? If he's a mechanic I'd recommend not taking your car there for work doing [emoji23].
Seriously though as has been said that's strong money for a 182 cup that needs belts in under a year. Also the cambelt isn't a job you want done by any old garage as without the correct locking tools it's easy to get the timing out and lose a big chunk of power. Any car you look at you want to ask when the belts were done (every 5 years or 70k) and by which garage. Main dealer or Renault specialist should be OK, Google them to check if you're not clued up on the well known specialists. Also run the registration in the government mot history checker. There are common fails like dampers leaking, broken springs and exhausts blowing. Don't be put off if you see those, just as long as they don't appear year after year. Don't let that put you off, these are easy cars to work on and parts are cheap and used parts are plentiful. Pay your £12 and the classifieds and guides will open up and you'll soon see how valuable that £12 is!

Oh and welcome to cliosport [emoji106]

15 year cambelt interval lol?

Does any car in the world have that?

As already said, car looks nice but it's expensive once you have factured in a belt change and it's the basic cup model.

My S40 was a 10 year interval, but I've never seen anything above that myself.

Superb cars, no mistake. Must have taken a through beating to have broken it.

nooo... it was on the basis that it had already been done and would need doing again at 15, anyway, he's checking again, but either way I've binned the car off.
