Looking to buy a Mk1, any tips??

I'm looking at a 1.4 L reg Clio as a possible second car, this one has 47k on the clock, is maroon/red and looks pretty neat.

Its only £495 but may be able to offer a lower price. Don't intend on doing much with it but does anyone have any buying advice on this?

rust in the rear arches obviously, leaky sunroof if it has one.

Hi Alex, i would look for obviously low milage, tidy engine etc.. but i would also look for colour coded bumpers, standard fog lights, power stearing. champs elysee`s are good models and normally come in 3 door with all the extras ive just mentioned. also personally when i was looking for my mk1 before i bought it, i was after dark blue or black as they look nicest when modded i think, anyway id say avoid ebay and stick to auto trader as most cars on ebay are hammerd, hope this helps, cheers

Went and looked at the one mentioned above but it was a complete sh!t box!! lol

I know it was cheap so I wasn't expecting it perfect but the bump strips were missing, the fog light cracked, paint work chipped/dented/scratched etc. The guy hadn't even bothered to clean it inside or out so I walked away.

I had a Mk1 Clio Oasis on an L reg and that was in such good condition although I bought it back in 2000 and cost me £2k but it was far better condition than this one and had more miles on it.

look for non leaking sunroof! it wud b ghood if u look at a mk1 a few hours after it has rained, as soon as u drive it u will get a shower frm the courtesy light area! lol

look for a 1.4 rt, better spec than the lesser models
