Lost my 5k kick.....

M

My exhaust went last week so i wen't to TBE to price one up.
It turned out that the back box had gone but it had gone before and some tit had welded it together so i had to have the middle box too, :S Costing a grand total of £193.00.
Now i could have gone down the performance exhaust route but i didn't want it to sound like a tornado so i had the standard one. After driving away i discovered that it sound completely different (like a tornado!). So pissed off i give it some right foot only to discover no 5k kick, just goes through the rev range with out the serge so i took it back and they said it was blowing a bit so they refitted it and seald it, still no change!

Really pissed off. They said if it had gone 3-4months ago i would have had to go to the stealers to get it done genuine only, so i don't know if this is the first batch of none gen and they will get better but it's total toss!:dapprove:

Rant over.

seems quite common when you fit an IK aswell, you lose the kick, not sure if its related to your problem

did there fit the right bore size?

Think so yes.

It's just a different shape. The genuine one is short but deep, this one is longer and not s deep. It sounds like i've had a 3" big bore put on it which is not what i wanted, if i did want that sound i would have had a performance exhaust on! It's deafening at 4k revs and over.

They come from the factory welded together as a 1 piece system :) So that tit was Renault.

im not aware of a non gen system, renault systems should look the same as what comes off for £193 middle and box box gen is out of the question as the back box is £100 and over i think

surely the 5k kick is to do with the cams in the engine and nothing to do with the exhaust, so maybe just a complete coincidence?

^^ Was thinking that too Dave, Sounds like an engine fault and not an exhaust problem.

Might be a stroke of luck it happened at the same time, Get it looked at would be the best bet.

nope, some aftermarket exhausts make you lose the kick and when you put a decent one like BTB on it comes back :p

Im sure i read somewhere that the engine relys on the pressure from the exhaust and which gives you the 5k kick.

My car lost the 5k kick with the prospeed on but when i went back to standard or BTB it was back and as strong as ever!!!

i thought putting the likes of ik & differnt exhaust could change how the power came it, so it would smooth it out instead of getting to 5k and going ape s**t.

Don't know about that mate because he gave two prices. Back box was £114 and the middle was £79 or other way around.

its all about the back pressure......

all these 'straight though systems' loose you power if not set up right imo(excluding the btb for example) The pug 205 gti lump made best power on its standard system. No back pressure is fine on a turbo motor, but on a N/A its needed
