Low rev / stall

Hello all, Had my 182 Silver for 2 days now.......... enjoying it :)

But having to resist the temptation to rev higher than 3500 RPM, I even phoned 3 dealers and asked for the opinion..

Anyway my question is, when I am driving the 182 it feels like it is bubbling or about to stall.... the rev counter never jumps about like other cars do when they are going to stall and it never ACTUALLY stalls..

Is this normal for hte car to make a rumbly bumbly noise when idle?

I am not to worried cause the car picks up fine when I accelerate.

Ive had my 182 for about a month now and I did manage to complete the run-in below 3,500 rpm for the stipulated 1,000 kms ... however the temptation to floor it was always there!

The idle is not the smoothest that I have ever seen, as yes it does seems to rumble a bit, nothing really to worry about ... Also I have noticed when reversing, the engine seems to struggle not to stall with the clutch in (coasting backwards).

Now you mention it, I have felt a strange response when in reverse. it didnt worry me too much but its good to know that somebody else has the same things

mine rumbles too at idle - ive just got used to it. Quite a few ppl have it so I dont think its a major prob. otherwise im sure we would know by now

My 172 doesnt exactly idle smoothly either - seems to be worse when starting from cold, dont really notice it any other time. Still a hell of a lot smoother than my previous Punto Sporting. That was a nightmare crawling in traffic 1st/2nd gear.

The engine has the awquard idle due to emmisions regs.

No other reason its Euro 4 or 5 emmisions laws means it has to be like that.

Bed it in hard though will make more power but you need to do it with 20 miles from new realy.

Theres alot of debate over this one. Youll find some very long threads on the "recommended" running in process.

For what its worth I, like many others, followed what it says in the manual (1000 km below 3.5 k rpm and not all motorway cruisin).

Hammered mine from 36 miles up to the current 2000 ... goes well, but then I only have to keep mine for 2 years and then its someome elses "issue" ;)

I havent had any problems with cold idle really. All I get is a bit of popping at about 3krpm (when easing off) that goes away when its warm.

Ive also noticed that the clutch can be a little "rough" when in slow moving traffic: changing from first to second gear, stopping and then repeating the cycle, gradually creeping along. Which is pretty much everyday for me going to and from work. Its only at the weekend when I get to really push the car.

From an engineering viewpoint hammerig it in the first 20 miles (not from cold when its warm) will bed the rings in better so you get less blowbuy on the pistons so more power and economy.

Motorcycle engines are testing to 14k when there built new so if the manurfactures arnt worried about high revs from new they I dont see why anyone should.
