lower ball joint

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
has anybody else suffered problems with the lower ball joints on there clio sports?
mine is apparently 'loose' and creeks when turning at low speeds or rocking the steering its really annoying
i went to renault they said it was this and it was quite a common fault the part was £60 then the labour to fit it.
has anybody encounterd simmilar problems

Yep I'v worn a few I get them done under warently.

There easy to replace compycat parts frm GSF etc are £10 and its 3 bolts needed to be undo to make one fit you only ned to jack the car up and remove the wheel the 3 bolts are on the part itself.

had it on a non RS, the lil gaitor around it splits and lets a load of dirt and crap in. Means you get excessive play and knocking from the wheel. had mine done (top job might i add) at a local garage. 10 quid for the part and 20 quid to fit.

wat £10 i paid £60!!!
Its deemed as 40 minutes labour or so which at £65 an hour is £32.50 then list price for a Renault part is about £25. I know the Williams one is £37. Then add a few quid for grease and you've got £60 easy.

Most Renault use the same ball joint. Some models ie Williams have special more expensive one for some unknown reason.

Renault don't list the balljoint on it's own, comes with the wishbone, which sounds like what they have charged you for.
I have just replaced both arms on my 172 as both the balljoints were worn.

yeh i imagine its the same joint, he just said what model, i said its a clio (on phone) so i assume they use the same part throughout.

They are different on the sport models, they have bigger bolts holding them on and have beefed up the metal too.

The Renault scenic from memoery uses the same ball joint as the RS Clios and thats buyable seperate.
