Lowering - 172 Mk1

I am sure this has been talked about over and over again but I need to get my 172 Mk1 lowered.

What have other 172 Mk1 owners done? In a ideal world I would love a set of coilovers but what sort of price am I looking at? The other option is to just do the springs but am I going to really sacrifice the ride comfort doing that?

All suggestions and thoughts appriciated.

I wanted coilovers as well but finances wouldnt allow so i bought a set of Apex Racing springs from KTec.

Car is nice and slammed now (on 17s) but the ride is a bit crashy over the uneven Bolton roads but its by no means unbearable. IIRC this is caused by the springs not being progressively wound whereas the Eibachs are!

Id almost saved enough for a set of coilovers until my exhaust blew this week so i the coilovers will have to wait a bit longer now! :(

I had Gaz coilovers on mine mate, cost me £468 iirc from K-tech.

What a difference they made. If you can afford them i wouldnt entertain just springs.

I would post a picture but i have been suspended from the uploader so cannot access my gallery.

Eibachs are good if youre going for springs. You wont loose the comfort much either like you would with Apex springs.

I completly agree :D Thanks guys.

Shes back on the 15s at the moment due to getting a flat on the 17s, waiting to have 4 tyres swapped onto the alloys. Enjoying the low ride of the 15s at the moment.

ive put pi springs on my 172 mk1 lowers front -25mm an rear -15mm ride is still excellent and handling is improved. it corners a lot flatter! dont need shorter shocks cos theyre still well within their operating range. they cost bout £90 + delivery and took 2hrs to fit. well impressed for pi, they seem to have improved since i had my willy

Stop being gay and get them 17s back on, you hassled me enough to try and get me to sell you mine, glad i didnt now;)

Oh and get some clear side repeaters and colourcode them bump strips.

Cheers Eviljohn, middle pic is standard on 16" wheels other 2 are lowered 35mm on 17s.

Smokey, the car now has Clear side repeaters.. got them for christmas.

Still unsure about colour coding the bump strips... im gona get ph2 ones, but i think the black helps to break it all up?

Im also getting a cup spoiler and ph2 lights on the back, and some little details done inside the car in yellow (including the fog surrounds and the engine cover)

If anyone would like to photoshop the side strips feel free! ;)
