Lowering -60mm...

  1.6 focus zetec....
Ive been to a place by me today called aldon-automotive (some of you will know the place)...anywayz i asked about buying some 60mm drop springs for my car and the chap behind the desk said they recommend that customers buy uprated dampers aswell so i said i'd leave it a while and come ask you lot what you think?!? Do you have to buy get uprated dampers...will it wreck my car if i dont get them??

Really i only want the springs for FCS so my car dont look like a 4x4 and my credit cards already maxed so not really got alot of money...

Any suggestions welcome....

just get springs, its recommended that you change the dampers but you dont *have* to. more wear n tear will be put on the dampers but i reckon yours will be fine, have faith :p

my springs are fine. theyre just going to shorten the life of your dampers significantly. Expect to get 18 months max out of them. By then you should be able to get some shorter dampers.
thanks

If you want some advice, you are lowering your car too much... you will probably bottom out on the bump stops without uprated dampers and you will also cause extra stress on your drive shafts which could lead to one braking. If you do decide to drop your car -60mm you will also need camber correcting bolts otherwise you may well scrub your tyres in a very short space of time.

It's true what they say for every action there is a re-action.

-35mm is plenty low enough for our bumpy British roads.

The ony reason you need a low car really is for track use.

The decision is yours matey.

Good luck.

drop it 60 mil, i cant see the point in 35 mil myself, you want it to be visibly lowered n look right, 60 at least. infact, save your money n angle grind 3 coils off the standard springs and put them back on, it'll be fine, honest :)

Lol my mates have old escorts and have chopped their springs and are basically on the deck... Ive got 17" alloys so there isnt that much room anyway!! Origianlly i was told to go 80mm by good old fred on coilovers but with my credit status that isnt happening...

^ i think fred would have said 'at least' 80mm. 60mm springs should be fine (if a little harsh)

Not really worried about the ride...might change them back after due to having baby on the way and want it to sleep as much as possible lol...

Thanks lads

With the right offset of wheels there'll be no rubbing of the wheels - even with a car full.
I've never heard of anyone hitting the bump stops with a 60mm drop tho.
But it's true you need to avoid pot-holes - they'll hit you like a ton o' bricks if you hit them full on.
35mm is better than nothing, but 60mm is better still. :D

lol...ive hit a few pot holes around here and buckled my front drivers wheel slightly so now i look out 4 em.... Im going to put my wheels on my mates clio thats dropped 60mm and see what rubbadge were getting on there!! My alloys are a 45 offset...

if ur gonna go 60mm drop i,d say change ur shocks.the ride aint that comfertable with uprated shocks,so standerd ones is gonna be a killer and thats without hitin potholes

Right...i swapped my alloys with my mates for a few hours (he has the same car but in black and with a 60mm drop) and it seems there is no rubbing at all :D When i took my alloys of my car i could see where the alloy had been eating away at the arch and there was a big hole lol....

Yeah, 60mm all the way. I don't regret going that low at all. The ride isn't too uncomfortable to be honest. Just watch those pot-holes!
