lowering advice and pointers

how much should i drop the clio when i get it

i think 16" cup alloys are what i am gonna try and get

someone has suggested 60mm but after looking thru old threads that seems very low,, whats the ride like when lowered 60mm? is it a bone shaker of a ride or still very comfy and un bumpy?

basically all i want is the car to look standard but just a lil bit lower with some normal wheels on it

so is 60mm too much, is 35mm the best route to keep ride nice and looks ok?

cheers for all the help and welcomes people

60mm will look good (im assuming its non 172 you are getting) but ride will be poor on springs, if you fit a damper + spring kit or coilovers the ride will be better than just springs.

im dropped 60 mil and no the ride isnt as good as it was, you feel alot more bumps, hit a speed bump too fast n youll scrape somethin. 60 mil looks good though imo. But if you dont wanna sacrifice practicality, just drop it 35 mil

well model i get is yet to be confirmed but it wont be a 172, either 1.2 or 1.4

i only really want springs as my last car was a money pit and dont wanna spend the earth again on a CAR. lol

and i want it still to be a very comfy ride and not feel all the bumps in the road,

so is 35mm the right choice or can u go 40mm?

depends on the spring manufacturer.. some do 35 mil, some do 40 mil. no difference at all really. ide keep standard shocks if your only dropping it that much

well Dan page live by me

he suggested 60mm

but i think 35 -40mm he said PI springs are ok,

ive been used to hydrolastic system on my r100 so not got much clue at mo

so i think its gonna be 16" Cup 172 wheels with a 40mm ish drop

cheers again guys

great forum and very very quick replies

Can i join the club? or do u have to have a performace clio- mind u i dont have a clio at all yet

ok, experience shows, 60mm Pi is good for looks and looks only, get a full kit, matched springs and shocks are THE only way to go, Apex -40mm is what i have and its great, and the -60mm kit seems to give a good compromise between the looks of the Pi, and the useability of the -40mm Apex!! At just over £200, its not gonna break the bank!! seriously.........do it!

not really, he could get springs all round for less than half that, a 35/40 mil drop on standard springs is fine. depends how much youre willing to spend really

i had just springs on my old car, its like doing half a job, if you want to lower it and feel the proper effects, you need the matched shortened shockers................dont be tight, do it all first time round, Apex shocks are lifetime warrantied too...... :D

Agreed! A full kit or coilovers!

Gregga, you can fit either Springs, Springs and shocks, or coilovers. all of these will give you lower ride height but the cost varies, springs being cheapest and coilovers dearest. The ride quality and quality of the product will be better the more you spend (in most cases) you should be able to get a set of good quality springs under £200. You dont need and cup or 172 or V6 etc to join everyone is welcome.

yeah ive seen that thread

looks nice

but dont know if i want my car that low to the ground

whats the ride like with that, any rubbing? can u fill the car with old people as thats what ill have to do LOL

hence why i think 35mm drop is best still looks standardish but look low

well how would the car sit on 16" alloys?

very high or look ok?

and if i dont need uprated springs and want it lower what do i do?

just buy 35 mm lowering springs. you take out your suspension legs, take out the old springs, put in the new springs, and put the leg back in!

ide say a 35 mil drop on 16s will look nice, and youll sacrifice no practicality or anythin extreme. The ride will be slightly bumpier as youve lowered the car but the ride will be just as bumpy if you uprate the shocks with the springs anyway.

if your paranoid about standard springs not being upto the job (which they are on a 35mm drop), get the 35 mm version apex kit that r3obc has, will cost around 300-350 all in fitted

40mm seems best option so far

i aint got a car yet tho guys, hopefully less than a month if my mrs dad can get me one in for £3k :)
