Lowering problems ?

i have a 2002 Renault clio 1.2 16v and have decided to lower it 60mm all round. I have 15" oz racing alloys ( offset 37) with 185/55/R15 tyres. Can i just get springs or do i need shocks as well?

Will i get any trouble with my tyres rubbing on full lock or not and will i be able to get over speed bumps still:rasp:

If you are lowering more than 40-45mm it is advisable to change shocks as well. Depends on your budget. Going 60mm you will need a springs and shocks. The Eibach Sportsline springs are a good option at around £135 and keep original shocks. Heres a pic of my 03' 1.2 16v on them.....on 17's

cool so you have 17" with springs and standard shocks :

have you had any problem with tyre rub and does the ride feel horrible and bumpy

im on 60mm on my old clio and it runs fine apex kit i got

am i right in thinking the more expensive the springs the better the ride quality with them or is this just stupid

I have 40mm apex springs on mine running with the same size alloya&although it sits very low i dont really have any major issues. Speed humps generally you need to take it easy- a recent exhaust modification has left it close to the ground but apart from that its fine

Eibachs are top quality, many swear by them on the 172/182. If you go too low you will affect the ride quality. The roads in this country are s**t so slamming it for looks is not ideal as it will not handle very well on bumpy roads. Many will admit theirs are too low.....why do it then I ask??? Looks aren't everything...surely great handling comes first. A 60mm kit may be ok on a 1.2 as it is not as low as a 172 to start...-20mm i think?

yeah thats what i was thinking, i might go for 40mm springs, would this damage the rest of my suspension ( e.g coilovers and shocks)

Coilovers will replace the original suspension completely. They are usually adjustable from around -30 to -80mm. Most are quite a firm ride especially FK's but there very well priced from around £450...for coilovers. Waste of money on a 1.2 in my opinion.

If you change the springs you should change the shocks as well shocks are desinged for set spring rates.
