lowering

Is there anyway of lowering my mk1 myself, or how much will it set me back?

Yes mate - if your on about the back then its a bit tough by that i mean the torsion bar - and on the front you can change the springs your self but you may need a spring compressor - but i think they are relatively easy to pick up!!

I worte some stuff about lowering it a little while ago - i will try get this for you!!

I used to have a crappy 1989 diesel clio which looked like a dune buggy so i took action!

I cut a loop off of the bottom of the front springs...

Dropped it a few splines on the torsion bars on the back...

total cost £0

with 5 people and luggage the rear tyres rubbed but it looked much better.

people have said how cutting the front springs was sooooo dangerous etc, but they seated fine on the shocks and were still very tight when the car was in the air, so i dont see the problem.
