lumpy as a school porridge

  20VT Clio & 9-5 HOT

since i had cams etc fitted my idle is lumpy as foook. Car drives spot on, but would this be down to the cams that need adjusting? The guy that built the engine just fitted them according to kent recommendation and didnt set anything up at all.

Runs fine, but will be needing unichip or similar at some point as well, just wondered what would be causing the lumpyness more than anythin. cheers

depending on the cams it could make the idle a bit lumpy as the cams are profiled to gain you power at higher engine speeds.not sure if a chip would help this its just a downside of using wild cams.

thats what i thought but they are only mild fast road cams. cant remember the exact profile off hand, think 258 or 285 sounds about right.

cheers jay

285 is a tad wild and i dont think that is how heavy they are, if your stilyl hydraulic that is.

Running cams with a larger overlap tend to pay havoc with plenham setups as you get large pulses and no steady MAP reading. You can try close up the LCA if you want.
