Lumpy idle still

  Mk1 16v brooklands
Right the problems persist with the 172! It idles like a right sack of s**t! I just changed the idle valve and that sorted it for about 5 mins, when it's cold it keeps cutting out slow down and come to a junction, dead, dip the clutch dead! Lumpy piece of s**t. Any ideas what it could be?

Be sure the IACV is seated and operating correctly... and the breather pipes that connect it all together. If that doesn't help make sure there's no damage to the inlet section that the IACV sits in then finally, be sure to check the TB is nice and clean and not gunked up with nasty oil residue... if it is, remove it from the car and give it a bloody good clean with something like "Brake Cleaner" (Or you can use Wynns carb/throttle cleaner if you're feeling rich but its essentially the same stuff) as this will give you throttle problems

Nope - TDC/Crank Position sensor wouldn't allow the car to run at all if it was faulty as its one and only task is to tell the ECM when the crank position reaches TDC.
