LY Clio 197 Turbo

  LY Megane R26 230
So as a few of you may have seen I recently started a track day project which was posted here

https://www.cliosport.net/threads/roland-rats-225-r26-track-toy-build.821311/

But my circumstances have changed and track days are no longer on the horizon. As the track car is a no go I still want a fun weekend car.

So by some strange fate of luck a friend was selling his 225 converted 197.

It's been converted for about 4 years and I know he spent a small fortune with Tech 1 Performance to undertake the conversion for him.

Spec was the following when it was converted

Megane 225 engine
250 Turbo
630cc injectors
3 Inch Decat
2.75 Scorpion full system
SMF and R26.R clutch
Remap to 300/300

Sadly it s**t its original engine a few weeks ago so he wanted rid.

Step in my Cat C R26 to be its organ donor shortly

So plans are simply to swap running gear and gearbox from the Megane with the performance bits off the Clio and make one nice car.

Best of luck, looks a nice car, but I'd consider winding the power and torque back a bit, mine was mapped to a 'safe' 300/300 with it slightly rich at the top end to give some added protection on track, long story short I did four engines and finally got shut.

I agree. I'd be happy at 270ish as it would be far more drivable with the 250 turbo.

Seen so many mapped at the top end of 290 for 'safety' just to go pop.

I had a R26,running 286/300.( My son now has it.) Much more I feel, is pushing your luck, and forging is the way to go. ( Other son is doing that now on his R26.)) I run the 250 engine, in my Clio, running 320/340, with the R26box/Diff. The Clio 197 box is not recommended, and speak to RST and others, and they will say the same. SO, R26,OR 250 Engined?. Decisions decisions..............

That Meganes lovely, real shame to be cutting it up. That's exactly what I want to replace my 172 with.

That said, the 197 looks great too, best of luck!

Looks can be deceving. Its a Cat C registered car with 10 owners so sadly not worth a great deal complete but runs perfect so a great engine donor.

I'm not chasing massive numbers so just going to be using the R26 engine and gearbox and 'de-tuning' it from its current level, 270/280 should be more than enough in a small car I hope ?

It's fueling issues that cause these Meganes to go pop.

Damage to ring lands on the piston due to poor fuel pumps mainly.

Keep an eye out for it blowing the dipstick out, that's one of the signs.
