Didn't even know you had this! Looks good, so what happened in the 7 years and whats the plans now?

Had her 12.5 years now matey, part of the woodwork

Plans currently are refit standard none turbo engine, get it running and take it for muchos welding, hence the repair panels. Got a couple of outer sills too somewhere to pop on the pile!

Right, time to start this one again. Unpacked the shell for first time in 5 years, inventoried everything and reorganised into stuff I need and stuff that's not currently required.

Dug out the front suspension stuff almost in it's entirety and will make a list of stuff I need to complete the job this week.

Few pics of progress, firstly dug everything out the car and laid it all out on the lawn to see what I have

Then cleaned the interior up

IMG-20200413-WA0009.jpg

Didn’t you do a load of bodywork one this already?? Why does it need welding so soon?

I did the pretty stuff, 11 years ago now think it was, and at that time sills were solid enough and jacking points were still there.... now they're not. Plus storing outside undercover has not been kind to the roof.

Lovely! All the valvers I'm seeing on here at the moment reminds me of the RetroRenault forum. God I'd swap a lot of stuff for my old valver

Bit more progress, cleaned up the bargain samco hoses, autoglym engine degreaser first, then soak in washing powder bath and quick scrub. Then many many rinsings

Come up lovely

Then trial fitted the 172 inner rods to the mk1 manual rack and all good, so just need to acquire some new boots and then I can mock up the roll kit and check lengths to ensure it'll track up right.

Glad this is still in your possession, I wish I still had either my valver or willy - missed the boat really with how picky I am. And of course.... as you know.... needs side trims ;)

:ROFLMAO: if you note good Sir there are side trims on the lawn air fix picture, they've been in the car about 4 years so that's enough side trim, dosage complete

FFS! :) I mean I'll send you some double sided tape if it helps?

I wonder where my old Willy 2 is these days? lost track of it a few years ago and not seen it pop up anywhere like ever!

Oh it's back on the road again!

M838 BCC has done 1,300 miles in 11 years lol.

Dammit should have kept it and done that myself. Would love to get it back....

Right, reality just came and slapped me right in the f**king plums. The underside is just not pretty at all and there's little point going any further until it's sorted. I was getting too excited about refurbishing and buying new bolt on parts when in truth I was avoiding what I knew deep down awaited me 😭

As such, quick chat with mate about it and he's going to sort it.

Plan now is strip the entire underside of the car, remove rear beam, fuel tank, all lines, heatshields, everything.

I'll then refurb the beam and get the chassis rolling before sending to get sorted. Phase 1 will be engine bay and underside, then get her back, get her running and road legal. Then following at some point cosmetics on the rest of the chassis/panels.

I know I'm mad to even consider fixing it really, it'll cost waaaay more than its financially worth but the car means more than that to me, so it's getting done.

Anyway, here's some pictures from today's poking that led to this rethink on approach.

So panels off

20200423_130010.jpg

Bay area still relatively full of crap

20200423_130022.jpg

Front inner arches I painted up with waxoyl a decade ago still pretty good

20200423_130054.jpg

20200423_130032.jpg

20200423_130105.jpg

20200423_130058.jpg

Little patch on front cross member on passenger side, not too serious and easy patch up

20200423_130048.jpg

And then the real issues, front jacking points gone, taken floor with them and substantial amount of sill gone too, more than likely including inners.

So proceeded to pop everything out the bay

20200423_201015.jpg

20200423_201035.jpg

And that's progress so far, rear end and underside next to strip.

So refitted the lights and panels so the cover doesn't snag, wrapped her back up and went in for a consolidatory beer...... and a cry
