Mac OSX + Hotmail = FAIL!

Car  SchwepTek™
Seriously they just don't go well.

Microsoft are about to remove HTTP Protocol support so I can no longer use Mail/Thunderbird and Safari has a constant looping error when logging in.

Anyone have any good alternatives to hotmail that are Mac friendly? Seriously considering spending £70 on a .Mac address!

Oh and my Uni email server has now switched to Windows Live too so need hotmail to access it! :(

Rant over....

Yeh i saw that this morning!

I thought i was the only sad one that goes on that site every morning! ;)

Would be good if it works with iPhone too so i guess i'll wait.

But like anything Apple, could be waiting for a while!

googlemail.com does take the piisss TBH but got mine when it was first out lol... not a clue then dude - sorry :)

just buy a domain name and email hosting from someone like 1&1, or even just a domain name and use mail forwarding.

cheap as chips.

googlemail and gmail are the same just diff extensions due to google breeching copywrite... i think he ment gmail sounds better than googlemail but you can no longer get a gmail account - it has to be googlemail which is weak.. :(

eh ....what ???? my hotmail is fine ??? when is this likely to cause concern
?

Thanks for all the info guys, will give a few a try in the morning.

Peaches - if u use http access to hotmail via a mail client, microsoft are shutting it down at the end of june.

ahh right, nightmate, i do use the Macs mailclient for hotmail, al be going back to to the webpage version then :(

gmail ftw.

i use both though and tbh they're both fine on my mac.

but, apple 'mail' is something i like even more.

<<<<mac ftw/windows i sh!t it!!

Yeah...except Apple can't make any decent infrastructure. And that using them in any enterprise situation is a non-starter. They're crap in a network situation.

Nothing but problems supporting them on a mixed domain, binding them to domain and a single sign-on authentication was always a pain in the ass, as is the damned keychains, as are their stupid MTU restrictions on FTPing.

Apart from that they run PS 'ok' :)

Again.. the gmail and googlemail domain are the same. Sign up to a googlemail and you can still send/receive from gmail.

Simple, right?

easy fix

1) go to preferences, select show cookies, type in live, select all delete - hotmail will now login - need to make sure you log out of hotmail properly in future to stop this loop

2) use firefox

job done

Hmmm but i really like safari and logging outs a pain lol. :o

Gonna wait to see what the new apple .mac is like. All i want is an email address so i hope they bring out a range of packages.

Y'see, there's ya problem! ;)

Wizbit, trouble is in a corp environment no domain is going to be majority Mac. I used to work for a publishing company and by nature we had 2 design departments of Macs, obviously the rest of the business was PC based.

It was only part of the problem, the rest is down to shortcomings of Mac as a trully enterprise workstation - which frankly they aren't.
