Mac Pro performance

Feck - it's a tad quick!

The Mac Pro from the other thread...

http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=234118

.... finally had the 4GB of memory turn up this morning. We left the original 1GB in there, so it now has 5GB in total. Time for a bit of speed comparison...

Opening the following .psd image in Photoshop:-

Image Size - 16,000 x 16,000 pixels
975MB in size as plain image, with other bits added, it comes to 1.7GB in total.

G4 Mac, running CS2 = almost bang-on 1 hour to open.

G5 Mac, running CS3 = 1 minute 55 seconds

I think it's safe to say that it's a little bit quicker....

My home C2D iMac is far quicker at opening PS files in CS3 than my old work G4 Mac using CS2.

Funnily enough, I saw the MD about 10 minutes later and told him the results. I think he can justify the expense in his own mind now!

It really was impressive to see. I knew it would be a lot quicker, but not by a factor of 30.
