Mac SMB Networking Advice

  Citroen DS3 DSport
I'm having trouble getting a Boxee/XBMC ready Apple TV to see my Mac on my home network, currently it does not even know it exists. I'm running Leopard and have activated SMB within the Sharing options and have selected which folders to share but still it remains invisible.

Apple's own software can access iTunes etc from the Apple TV.

Any idea what's went wrong or how to fix?

SMB doesn't broadcast availability.. (doesn't use bonjour etc)

You'll need to specify the path manually from the Boxee to the Mac..

I tried that with the details provided in the Share dialogue box but it could not connect. Not sure if it's a Boxee/XBMC problem or the Mac.

How are you trying?
What format does it take it in?

smb://IP.ADDRESS.OF.YOUR.MAC/Sharename should work providing you've given access to a user of your choice and the Boxee knows the user/pass?

I've never used Boxee so going in blind, but.. that's how normal OSX works.

Yeah thet's the format I have been using but with no success :(

I'll create a new user account tonight and see if that makes any difference or not. Alternatively I'll see what I need to do in order to gain access to the ATV hdd so that I can copy my media files directly to it.

I managed to get this working last night using the same settings I'd failed with on Monday. Not sure why it suddenly works but it has so all is good. XBMC on the Apple TV is excellent.
