Macbook apps

Right i've purchased a macbook and i'm awaiting for it to be delivered.

I'm after a couple of apps and wanted peoples opinions on what would be best?

The only thing I can do is describe the app and give you the windows alternative.

I need the following...

Internet browser (is the pre-installed one the best? do I get firefox)
Best msn messenger client
Newsreader like grabit
Par repairer
Winrar but for mac?
DvD Shrink
Burning software?

As you can see I am coming from Windows.

Comes with Safari. So get FireFox. Adium does MSN.

MacTheRipper does dvds, theres something else too but i cant remember the name..

I prefer safari to firefox.

and everything else is built in.

only problem I found it with newsgroups etc.

I have installed XP for this on my MAC and just installed grabit.

I use nzbdrop and macpar deluxe for newsgroup downloads.

if youre going to be using any urmm dodgy software you dont want phoning home then you'll also want to have Little Snitch

i also prefer Opera browser to safari and firefox
