Managed 98 in 3rd today

Had a clean of the air filter sunday, and this morning, i nipped to the local air field on me way to work, and me car got to 98 in 3rd, 78k rpm, managed this trick twice. Need ot work out some better air flow mangement for the warmer weather

not much in the mechanical side, just remap, induction kit, Magnecore performance leads & plugs, decat blueflame. Plus i got heavy 17" rims, not sure what my 4th does, i think it does do near 120, will see if the runways empty tonight, and try

Would the speedo be out due to the wheels?

I got my 106 GTi into 100 in 3rd by downshifting a touch too early for a bend, lol.

don't think so, cos my snooper gps thing, tells me the same as my speedo
LOL, i have gone into 3rd a few times by mistake, luckily the limiters working fine

The speedo on most cars are slightly out .

The speedo is actually MORE accurate with 17s than it is with 16s.

the speedo on mine is usually +2mph at 70, but the cruise control reading is identical to the road angel.

Not sure if it's true but a lad from work has a cooper s and reckons he gets 80mph in 2nd gear! Gear ratios must be a bit weird.

i doubt a mini could get to 80 in second gear, supercars can't do that can they ?

Thats exactly what I said! I personally think he's talking cr*p. He has done a few mods like supercharger upgrade, exhaust, air filter etc and reckons it's upto 230bhp. But I still don't think it would manage that. But he did say 3rd and 4th gear are pretty useless, so maybe 2nd in a cooper s is the equivalent of 3rd in a clio!

I love the monaro, they sound beasty....well they are beasty. are they 5.7 litre or something mad? Off the subject but saw something in nuts about the renault twingo thats coming out soon, sounds like it will be fairly nippy

I cant see why a cooper s wouldn't be able to do 82 in second.

My mates 03 plate ST170 does 82 in second :approve:

mine does 80mph in 2nd... I'd prefer shorter gearing.

I can quite believe the 80mph in 2nd, my mates V70-R will do about 75 in 2nd.
