Mass air flow meter

  Rb 182
Ok having problems with my turbo, now i just need some geneal advice.

The car will start and idle ok, but if you try rev/drive it then it will die!

Now i have changed ecu to orange ones to allow me to run it with out a lambda probe. Now the 2 MAFs i have one looks liek its been dropped and the other, if you shake it lightly you can hear summat move (like a blown bulb).

Also car will idle fine with the MAF unplugged but if you try running with it pluged in then it dies within seconds.

there are no boost leaks, plenty of petrol and im using a fuel pump that runs the same flwo rate as the 480t.

I have a MAF on order and im 90% sure this is the problem, am i right to think this??

Any advice would be great.

MAFs can be a right pain in the a55 - very sensitive items.

from what you describe it sounds completely possible.

I take it you're not getting fuel cut problems without the MAF ?

Without the main load sensing device to calculate air mass and density flow, there is no way your car will run past idle anyway.....without a lambda or mass on a speed density system, your pretty much running your ECU blind.

I'd get everything hooked up and in good working order before you worry why its not running properly.

It is all connected and working. Im trying to finish it to be able to drive it

Well with the maf not connected it runs ok for a good 5 mins or so then cuts out,

The other think is that on one of the MAF's the cover has been taken off and has been tampered with, i have been told form the vovlo boys that they can be turned up/down. But i dont want to use that one, it would be trial and error, so dont wnat to chance it

no, just that it seems that your jus worrying for the sake of it.

One MAF loooks damaged, one rattles.......MAF's are the most uselessly fragile thing even at the best of times.

The thing idles, but as soon as you introduce more throttle it dies, meaning that its not adjusting the fueling to account and is simply starving. Running with the MAF connected and it dies?

Just saying not to worry and get the new maf, not refrain from asking questions........uptight?

If you had a lambda gauge you'd be able to tell exactly what was going on.

Sorry, car is pissing me off royally now. Wish i had done the conversion and just bought summat else!

Ill await the new MAF and see what happens.

No worries, never was a fan of the ovlov engines, particuarly the management system.

They will run perfectly fine if you dump the stock ECU and run a map based speed density system.

Ill stick with the stock ECU, im thinking cossie time now ;)
