Maybe a question thats been answered alot of times so sorry if it has...

I am thinking of buying a 172 or a 182. Im not to sure on the cup versions because I prefere to have some of the extras that you get in the standard models.

Between the standard 172 and the standard 182 which should I go for? I am only asking this because I have heard that the 172 cup is quicker than the 182 cup and was wondering whether it was the same for the standard models.

The cost isnt that much of an issue but if theres a big difference in price for not much more car then of course I want the cheaper one. Mileage around 20k - 40k.

Thanks, Adam

182 with cup options mate.... there is barely any performance difference in them.

Ive got the non cup 182 but with Eibach sportlines and cup spoiler. Just prefered the wheels.

The 182 has some advanatages the 172 has others.
Only the 172 has the spare wheel well (the 172 cup has the well but no wheel) and has wheels which let the brakes cool more the 182 has the better suspension setup but there more expensive. There other things as well.

172 CUp are often called the fastest due to there weight removal plus they don't have air con compressors (although some Cups had it fitted). You get good and bad ones though a 182 vs 172 Cup is about the same though.

If you want value for money a phase 1 172 is the best £3~4k for one it has the best setup realy suspension wise is just as quick realy has the a/C plus the tyres are cheaper (15's not the 162 the 172 phase 2 and 182 have) trying to get one with 40k might be a problem there 6 years old now but milage is no problem on the 172/182 cars realy.

I dont think I want a cup though because they are more to insure and there alot more expensive. If you reply could you do so with some information on why please not jus personal opinion. Sorry to sound bitter but I dont know alot about clio's since ive been driving for 3 months so need people to offer opinions. Good or Bad.

Thnx

Im more into the ph2 model because I have had one previously and they look more modern. I have seen some nice ones around on Autotrader for around £6000 - £8000 but I am still confused about insurance groups between the cups and the standards and which would be best for the money.

Thnx, Adam

172 Cups are usualy the cheapest for the same milage as its winter time and people don't want car with no ABS over winter plus they are the basic spec

The 182 Cup has the same basic interier realy it has the ABS though.

Some places differ the 172 Cup has had a load of claims due to no ABS etc but some places charge just the same.

The 182 Cup has the ABS though.

The 172 Cups were the same as the normal ones but the amopunt of claims on them (one company had a 20% claim rate on them) they are sometimes given huge premiums.

Value for money depends what you want the 172 Cup is a great car realy cheapest usually but you can get normal 172 with all the toys for similar cost they often have higher milage than the Cup since they were bought by people who used them for commuting motorways miles few bought a Cup for commuting to and from work its just a stripped out low cost more racy setup.

Ok.. got me stumped there for a minute lol.

I didnt say 182 cup... just the std with cup options. If you still dont want that then just a std 182 as the performance is nigh on the same for the whole lot.

Sorry if i still didnt help.... just trying to understand what your wanting.

Edit: Actually, looks like edde has this rapped up so ill back out lol

I was looking at the 182CUP then decided on the 172CUP know I'm changing my mind again. Does the 182CUP come with any better interior than a 172CUP? Thats the only possible difference I dont remember.

  Lionel Richie
182cup and 172cup both have the basic plain interior

here's the breakdown

mk1 172 - aka "phs quick", leather, air con, abs, cable throttlebody, awesome gearbox, brilliant fun

mk2 172 ff (full fat) - all the toys, xenon headlights, 53reg onwards have traction control which is the crappest system ever made

mk2 172 cup - awesome, no air con, no frills, no abs, normal headlights, you will crash it

mk2 182 ff (non cup packs)- same interior as mk2 172, traction control is standard on all of them, thank god you can turn it off!

mk2 182 cup packs - as above but with different suspension and grey wheels, spoilers were optional

mk2 182 cup - plain interior, traction control, normal headlights (same suspension as 182 cup packs)

Fred you forgot the supposide ultimate

Trophy - 182 CUp just with fancy expensiv suspension and rock hard ride. Differetn whele fancy seats err V6 spolier.

so out of that list, crossing out the ph1 because I prefere the ph2 model, (even though it sounds like its the best fun). I wanted ABS and some extras so that crosses out the Cup models. Im left with: mk2 172 ff and the 182 with cup packs. So out of them 2 which would be better? The 182 I would go for because of the extra brake :)

at this stage it would come down to personal prefrence surelly???? not driven either the 182 or 172 in any form but i would go for the mk2 172 just as i think it looks better.

probably the most useless info on this topic but thats what would sway it for me and at the end of the day why would you need the extra 10bhp unless you had the 182cup pack or the 182 cup??

Edit: as you can probably tell ive not had a clio long and dont know much about them either :(

sorry I knew that but had only just made this decision on the forum. I still have interest in your car but I dont have much knowledge on which would be best for (fast but also quite comfy) Im not going to be taking her to a track bcause I have only been driving for 3 months lol so would just prefere a fast and comfy car for now.

I used to have a 172 FF but bought this for the colour, TBH in my opinion if you get a FF the alacantra on the seats goes funny and is a fucker to keep clean, If you smash a headlight or crack it on a xenon one Its £250+ to get it changed, Not just saying this, My Cup has everything except Xenons, Leather and Climate control and auto wipers (which are a pain anyway)

I have pmd you anyway
