Media Centre legalities

  Rav4
Hi,

Just wondering if you guys have any information on this, cannot find a concrete answer on Google but haven't spent too long on it.

If you burn a DVD without modifying the DVD and store it on a drive/NAS is that illegal?

Some people state that it's illegal to copy DVD's due breaking the encryption.

Some people state that if it's used for personal reasons, it's not.

I think it might be on the same lines that it's illegal to copy a CD, yet you can rip them into iTunes?

Thanks,

G.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ripping

In the United Kingdom, making a private copy of copyrighted media without the copyright owner's consent is currently illegal,[SUP][3][/SUP][SUP][4][/SUP] but the UK government's new Digital Economy Act is likely to make copying of CDs for personal use legal.[SUP][5][/SUP] According to one survey, 59% of British consumers believed ripping a CD to be legal, and 55% admitted to doing it.[SUP][6][/SUP][SUP][7][/SUP]
