im guessing these will fit straight onto a standard mk1 diesel hub? worth it as a sutable mod on the cheap?

Depends which megane... the Mk1 2.0 16V meganes run a 172 style hub and caliper fitting
Lesser megane models might work... but would only be the same as Williams/16V calipers

As Winston says really. Also Ph2 meganes run 172 brakes so these also wouldnt work

Whats the best type of brakes to get for a reasonably cheap improvement then? Just try and find a set of 16v ones or are there alternatives that are easyer to find?
16V / Williams are a safe bet
Ive got some good conditions ones up for grabs with pads... just get some discs from your local parts place

The Mk2 none RS cars 99% of the time (bar a few ie early 1.2 16V and 1.2 8V) use the bigger 259mm setup same as the williams and 1.8 16V and there newer and more common so better conditin often.
Stock brakes arn't that bad though just check them for wear etc and chnage as needed fluid makes a huge change. So many people chnage there calipers etc saying it better but a simple servise would have given 995 of the gaisn for much lower price.
