Megane RS bonnet won't open

Bonnet seems stuck on wife's meg. Pulling the lever inside, feels like it's no longer attached to anything.

Mine felt like it was completely disconnected on my clio, had to take off front bumper and pop the mechanism as it seized. Can you access the mechanism on a meg through the bumper?

How did you remove the bumper with the bonnet shut?

No idea, I say I, but it was a friend whilst I watched. I think it was moved until we could access the mechanism, not completely off.

If it's a mk2 I know you can carefully pull the passenger side black grill out and get to the mechanism from there.

The arm on my catch broke where the cable nipple attaches.
Resorted to snapping the diamond badge out the grill.
