Megane/Scenic F4R upgrades

  04 Clio Sport 172
I have a 2004 Megane 2 ltr (f4r) - I need advice on what clio sport 172/182 parts are useable on this engine/car. I read one post by Matt Black on changing the block to a 172 block etc and keeping the head/intake exhaust etc original . Anyone else modified a Megane or Scenic ( dont laugh I ve seen one o/seas guy has fitted Nitrous)
what would be the best plan of attack to free it up a bit
(and no I cant buy a clio 172 - cant fit the kids in :( )
Thanks in advance

could chnage the block for the 172 one as its higher compression ratio the 172 head and cams are better as well though so to get the best swop with them but the cams to make the most need to have the vvt activated on them which means either making the 172 ecu work or using your ecu if it has the ability to or is enable to use vvt to switch the cams.

Best advise IMO is to buy a quicker car

Personally i would keep the bottom end in and try a 172 cyl head with inlet manifold and exhaust manifold. Scrap the Fly by wire throttle body and fit a manual one off a mk1 172 - buy an accelerator cable and pedal from a mk1 172 and fit these in order to work the T/B ( or adapt the existing pedal ). Then i would have your ECU remapped in order to fuel the set up correctly. This should give you 170 bhp. Any rewiring of sensors should be done by a skilled sparky.

buy yourself a quicker car.

i have a 172 and the wife has a 2.0 scenic. cant quite imagine how it would handle with 170 on tap !

So basically a head & manifolds swap could be run off the OEM computer
T/B ? Throttle bodies? and therefore a complete swap?

Why keep original bottom end? - isnt higher compression ( 11:1 vs 9.8 :1 ) and lighter crank? giving quicker revs ? Is 172 crank different?
(I suppose its easier/cheaper to leave it ofcourse)

Is it worth rebuilding bottom end i.e. Could the pistons be replaced with new forged high compression pistons which suit RS 172s ? Or would the swap be a better option

I suppose this also similar to swapping to a 197 motor from a 172

Thanks for your help - I think its great that you guys pass on your knowledge and advice -

I have not much luck tracking down technical info on engine differences anywhere
I will have fun with this one - there is plenty of work to be done wheras difficult to improve on a 172/182

and no its not a scenic I am silly but not that silly :clown: ( but each to their own)
I cant see any reason why you cant modify a 2lt Megane to be almost as much fun as RS Clio but with more comfort, safety and practicality

Maybe a 172 scenic would be fun. It would keep your attention !

Youve answered your own question there - its easier and cheaper and theres not much power difference between the two. Im assuming your engine is an F4R 770 ( 136 BHP ) ? if its a 2004 this is the most common unit used. The only thing the F4R 736 unit shares with your engine are the rods. The pistons and crank are different & so is the block. Im pretty sure your bottom end could cope with an extra 36 horses that could be found through the above mods / remap. If you wanna go higher / quicker be prepared to pull your wallet out.

I have access to a complete megane 225 turbo running gear / set up if your interested ????

Yes it is the F4R 770 . Same bore and stroke as 172. I assume increasing compression could be done with new forged pistons .
Mate turbo motor would be the go . I think an after market job would be more cost effective though and suit the motor well as it is very smooth and non revvy. Looks as tight as a nuns .... in there though.
I would be happy with 20-30 hp so I will be on the lookout for a 172/182 motor for head etc and also do the cams - and ship it to Oz.
I dont mind spending the dough it just has to be in small pieces to keep the Mrs happy
Cheers

What if put 172's cams and exhaust manifold to Megan and remap ECU?
May be pistons too?

It is hard to find 172 inlet mani in my area? Could you guys help with it?

As I known 2ltr Megane run 0-60mph in 9 sec.

If it is tuned to 170bhp can it run close 8 sec at least (at the same weight of course)?

What about gearbox? Is it still JC5? any advantages using Clio RS parts?

Friend of mine used the OEM RS camshafts, a exhaust manifold w/o pre-catalyst (like RS OEM), a 60mm exhaust system and 200 cell catalyst, did remap and got as result dyno-tested 163 hp and 212 Nm out of his F4R-700 engine...

Your friend just use OEM RS cams, exhaust manifold and performance exhaust with sport cat?

Is intake standard? pistons? CR 9:8?

What if RS intake manifold would be used?

Do you known his 0-60 time or so?

Yes, OEM compression ratio and also the OEM intake manifold.

I don´t know the 0...60 time, but accelartion was already amazing as the engine is installed in a ClioA and had the short valver gear box.

But now the engine got the RS-intake manifold a a little turbo charger.....f*** it that´s really fun, because due to the lower compression ratio you can use higher charge pressure than if you had the RS compression ratio! :D

Nice! Have you tryed run with RS intake manifold and with out turbo?

What for you use RS intake with turbo? What is the reason with turbo?

Why don't you use intake manifold from F4R turbo (Megane Turbo (163ps) or RS (225))?

No, only with turbo.

The reason with turbo...huhh...power..?????

The kit was was based on the RS-Turbo kit from Fast-chip.

Nice.

What can you say about quality of Fastchip/MB Car Performance parts and work?

What power you have now with turbo?
