Migrated to Giganews

For the usenet geeks. I've switched from UNS to Giganews' Platinum SSL 20 pipes.

Wow. Fast, ultra rock solid and far better completion. It's more expensive at $29.99pcm but I'm downloading at a stready 17mbit 2200K/s

I moved onto that service last month and it is brilliant. I'm sure the SSL is prob a good thing but I've no idea how effective it is at stopping the authorities from seeing all the 'legal' TV and movie downloads people run.

Newsdemon have offered the same (20 connections, SSL, Unlimited) for ages for a lower price.

I have wondered this, the FTP's I download from have SSL enabled. The presumption is that the ISP just sees a stream of data thats encrypted. How true that is I dont know

Any ISP gimps here?

SSL is basically what I.E, Firefox etc uses when you log-in to your on-line banking for example.

A 3rd party (ISP) can see what's being transferred but due to the encryption it will looks like gibberish to them.

Its a usenet service provider.. read the sticky at the top of this form regarding news servers.

Yes SSL is IIRC 128bit encryption... can be cracked but it wouldnt be worth the effort for what was gained.
