could aftermarket boxes make it slower?

Firstly , that looks the the dogs mate . How much ? Only thing i can suggest is that the bore of the pipe going into the back boxes is smaller than the original size , 63mm is the original iirc . If it is smaller you would be getting a slight restriction .

When you say it is slower , is it hell of alot slower , or just a little bit .

Or it could even be too big , there is an optimal size , if it was too big then this would have an adverse affect on the back pressure , which fcuks up how the gases flow .

Get under the car and measure it , see what size it is .

Looks good especailly as you can't see the back boxes

Is a single back box supposed to be better in performance terms?

The back boxes do look alot smaller than the originals , now whether that is the cause of the problem i'm not sure . I've seen similar sized back boxes posted on here before but nobody seemed to have any problems with it slowing the car down .

it was £220.

the pipe that goes into the backboxes that they made is the same size as OE.

the hole in the backbox at the end where the tailpipes are welded too does look a little smaller than standard :(

It just feels like it doesn't "pick up" as quick as it did before. I need someone else with a 182 to drive it i think.

Maybe it will get better after you've got some miles under your belt , when it carbs up and smooths out the flow , plus you might get a slight noise increase .

Like ya say , have a drive in somebodys who still has the original if ya can .

Gotta admit though , thats probably one of the best systems i've seen on a 182 . Good price too . Hope it loosens up or you get to the bottom of the problem :)

Looks extremely tidy, check the diameter of the pipes going into the back box as mr billy said and maybe leave it 3/400 miles to bed in. Looks extremely nice though.
Good luck getting to the bottom of it.

As good as it looks it is deffo not right with this zorst! :(
Feels gutless compared to before it was put on. I am just gonna spend more money gettin one i know that works; hayward and scott.
So this will be up for sale if anyone wants it to try and make it better?

Have you been back to tell them that your not happy with the exhaust . In your other post about your exhaust MarkM had the same problem with MIJ . You've paid good money for the exhaust it should be right .

  Tesla MP3 2021
does looks spot on that matey....
most simple mods for 172/182 seem to make the car appear slower...just look at the effect of a viper and how people are mainly disapointed

if your about the stoke/newcastle area at any point dan, u can have a gander at mine and see if theres any difference?
ive got a prospeed on mine, its the oldskool twin silencer tho (not the new single silencer)

standard bore is 50mm ish, so ideally you should have 57mm (2 1/4")minimum, ideal is 63mm(2.5") to 75mm(3") ish but at the larger bore its very loud, if they have gone smaller than the oe size that is why it feels slower as it is being 'choked', trouble is if you didnt specify what size bore you wanted theres probably not much you can do.

i made this mistake with my first full system, an inconvenience for sure..

i know someone else who had a problem with them, but i'm not gonna spout off on a internet forum like others do

You may not want to hear this mate but when I had a MIJ Performance exhaust (decat and back) fitted to my saxo VTR its looked and sounded good but was slow as you like. Car just didnt seem to be doing anything like it previous speeds

Saying this I have heard good things but not had a good experience.

The only way for Dan to get it sorted is to get his arse down to MIJ , tell them the exhaust is causing a problem i.e. making the car sluggish and that it needs looking at . Don't have to go in all guns blazing , sometimes people are more willing to help when you are civil with them .

Cos if i pay £20 or £220 for something i want the product right .

looks good but that is the problem with custom built exhausts no testing goes into it they just weld a couple of boxes on to any pipework, if you want somthing that you know will make more power or the same power off the shelf exhausts like magnex, scorpion, janspeed (normal priced ones) are what you should get, at least they do dyno them when they are developing the exhausts

  MK2 Audi TT - 2.0T dsg.
Mine also felt a little slower when I went from std to cat-back but I think it was more down to hearing the xtra ROAR and thinking it should be going faster to make that noise than you really are. anyway as soon as I went decat it picked up from low revs so much better. Looks nice though mate.
