misfiring badly help!

in asda car park today when the car shuddered and cut out, restarted now its really badly misfiring and very noisy rattling noise from inside engine.. managed to get it home and have checked coil pack all plugs sparking fine, what next! compression test? any1 got any suggestions?? im think maybe a snapped valve, broken dephaser pulley?

Cambelt gone and taken everything with it?

You will need to get it to a mechanic.

Doesnt sound to good, id recommend you to get a mechanic out or getting it towed to a garge, do not attempt to start the car

How did you get it back home?

The worry is, if it is the cambelt starting the engine again could have been catastrophic.

drove home misfiring 2 hell! belt only changed bout 4k ago if it had snapped i wouldnt have got home?? just had mechanic round 2 have a look said cud be broken vavle/spring

theres not even any renault specialists to take it in newcastle that i know of

i took the leads off 1 by 1 and all sparking fine and makes no difference 2 misfire

it also doesnt explain the noisy rattle from inside the engine tho which cudnt be related to coilpack

would that cause such a rattling noise tho and 2 misfire so badly? from what ive read these arent the usual dephaser symptoms :S

rattling noise could be the dephaser, as for the misfire coil pack .. but you say thats tested.
could possibly of dropped a valve but i think you would really know if that was the case. its hard to guess without having a video and being able to hear what kind of noise it is thats being made.

Think il put it back together after work and make a video to show the problem, don't really wanna keep running the engine tho the state its in. This is gunna be an expensive week!

Nothing at all leading up to the break down?

I had misfires which turned out to be coil pack.

Could possibly be sensors changing the fuelling level, spark plugs, air leak?

All plugs fine aswell, nothing 2 suggest any problem before it happened n still nothing really 2 suggest what has happened, running on 3 cylinders and very rattlie from inside engine haven't dare start it since it got home tho

an update so far:-

COIL PACK - OK
PLUG LEADS - OK
SPARK PLUGS - OK

but still only running 3 cylinders - cyclinder 1 is the problem

im hoping someone else has had this problem before??

Been on rs tuner and no fault codes show up. So this is leading me to valve problem on cylinder 1 by the looks of things....

i had this problem 2 weeks ago, plugs, leads, pack all fine but the reno specialist i always go to found out it was the injector from one of the cylinders. new injector, job done

Would an injector problem not throw up a fault code tho?

Mine didn't throw a code when an injector went but did show as having a faulty cat.

My old 1.2 spent ages in and out of garages with cylinder 2 not working. No power... sometimes going into limp mode... sometimes cutting out... rattling like s**t...

Was a blocked injector.

Massive thanks to infernowen for coming round and doing compression test, turns out its a faulty plug lead even tho I tested them! Strange but true, well I'm very happy it wasn't valve or piston problem tho!

happy days! I had the same trouble though, even though it was an injector that went on mine, the fault code that came up was ''destructive misfire'' and thats it, no cylinder name, nothing lol talk about useless information ha

Yeah im a happy owner again lol got new leads coming monday so all should be well again!
