Mk 1 172 Water Pump

Sorry to bring up this old subject, but can anyone give me any idea of the noise my water pump would make if it was knackered.........

Also, my 172 is 3 years old in September, but only had a 1 year warranty. What are my chances of getting away with not paying for this? I could do without, well not at the same time as my £285 36000 mile service and wheel bearing (No 2) change.

mine is in on weds for a clicking noise on tickover that they think might be the water pump. 1 and 1/2 hrs labour to get to it they told me! also had my wheel bearing done a couple of months back and just paid around £250 for a 36k service, spooky!

spooky indeed, test drove a mk1 172 with 43k miles and the wheel bearing was knackered..
