mk1 172 - 5 yr cambelt service - Essex ?????

Hi I need to get my 5year cambelt servoce done and want to know what to pay for this and where is good and cheap to get in done in and around essex.
have been quoted £500 inc vat with service as well, so cambelt done and service! This is from main dealer, is this a good price or can i get cheaper?

That's what I paid for cambelt and 36k service on my 2000 X 172.

It was Reg Vardy at Sighthill, I know one of the techs there.

Well I needed a new head gasket so took it to a bloke my dad knows and I got new head gasket (bolts etc), the head skimmed, the cam belt and alternator belt changed, new timing chain, and new accelerator cable all done for £366. The place was G. A. Motors (01376 324549) in Braintree, he works on his own and specialises in renaults. Thought this was a great price as I was quoted at least £500 just for the new head gasket by a local garage. Was on my 2000 1.4s btw.

Cam belt on a 172 is slightly more work than a 1.4

I also paid 500 for belt and 36k service from ClarkieV6 down here in Devon.

BB Tuning are in Braintree and have the prices for this on their site, it's pretty high though iirc.

Yeah it's obviously a bit more work involved to a 2.0L and parts would cost more, but was pointing out how much cheaper he was than other garages, let alone renault. BBPT are in Earls Colne not B'tree.
