Mk1 172 cat

I understand that the mk1 172 cat has 2 pipes compared to jus 1 on the newer models. Is it a better cat compared to the new models and those aftermarket ones?

The 172 cat is very restrictive.

The 182 has a more free flowing cat.

Have a look for some pictures youll see how much bigger the 182 one is.

Best option is to decat on a 172 for more power the 182 isnt as bad.

if i could only do 2, which is better? a sports cat + exhaust system (minus the centre pipe) or a cat-back system?

Depends what type. A decat plus straight though exhaust similar to Big Iain is probably the most powerful but noisy.

it was better but constant failures led to renault ditching the idea.

what failures were they? btw, what you guys reckon with a panel filter + supersprint exhaust system? i do not need a chip with those mods heh?

You dont need a remap but due to the low fueling of the Stock 172 it will gain power and remove the worries (Id have) about lean running.

Buy you could run fine with those mods.

the twin cat had better flow and warmed up faster so intially better for emissions. had a lot breakdown/rattle and then they stopped coming through with them fitted.
