MK1 172 headlamp adjuster

Ive just replaced one of my headlamps as a clip was broke on it. I had to swap the adjuster thingy over, however i found it really difficult to put it back in, and now it doesnt appear to be doing anything

Anyone have any suggestions?

Also would this fail an mot?
