mk1 172 problems

ive had a tapping in the engine now for 5 days, could be the tappets but not sure. now i went on a drive tonight and noticed that on the way home the temp gauge was very low (on the first notch) id driven about 30miles home, popped the bonnet up and the plenum was stone cold, and is usually red hot.

Could this be caused by the tapping? is it the thermostat?

Check the coolent temerature gauge is working.

the gauge is working i was coming home from my g/f and it went up to the forth notch as soon as i booted it a bit it dropped back to the 1st notch.
if it was broken would it cause the plenum to be cold?

Its broken then new senros not that expensive easy to chnage.

Temp gauge should slowly climb over a few minutes to half way then stay there all the time realy regardless of rpm etc.

im taking it to a garage to see what the tapping is anyway next week,

do you know how/where to change the sensors?
