It may be different with the clio strut braces, but on my old 205 the correct fitting of the strut brace was actually with the arch of the brace bending away from the bonnet (into the engine bay) rather than upwards. Always looked wrong to me and when I was first fitting it I thought it was wrong as I couldn't close the bonnet!! I just hadn't fitted it the correct way round!

I know your problem it happened to me last weekend!!! First you have to adjust the bolts right in this lowers it a bit, also loosen the bolts on the left and right hand side of the brace the next bit you will love or hate!! take the cladding off the bonnet, next try and gently shut the bonnet, it will not shut but when you open it again you will see some red marks on your bonnet from the brace. They you have to get a angle grinder and cut some of the inner skin out!! so the brace will fit it. the mrk 1 bonnets are different from the mrk2's and cups. I will post up a couple of pics for you to show you where to cut. It was also handy to have a bit of red paint to put on the strutbrace so when you shut the bonnet you can see where you need to cut. But it looks good when you get it on.

Any questions get in contact

Kev

First photo is the finnished result
Second ishow much to set the nut to
Third is what you need to cut on the right side of the bonnet
Forth is the cuts on the left I just made some cuts and hammered the metal up

Trust me it fits after this the back one is way easier to do 5 minute job!!

F*ck grindin' away the inside of your bonnet

If it says it fits a mk1 172 then it should fit without any modifications unless otherwise stated .

I'd have been back in touch with the suppliers / manufacturers and told em of your problem .Maybe its a known issue with this model of strutbrace and car and they could have offered some advice .

I've still got the sound defening to go back on and to clean it up a bit so you souldn't notice too much of my angle grinding skills LOL I think it is the design of the mrk 1's bonnet, as it is different to the cup i had a look at it would have fitted straight on to that no problem. The car feels alot tighter with the 2 strut braces it was worth the hassel and it looks good!!

Had the same prob on my 172 mk 1 bonnet would not shut, so clamped the strutbrace to a bench and tapped along it with hammer and block of wood, they sit too high up where it goes across the engine , shuts fine now

thanks for the replys i have phoned up demontweeks and told them it is a joke and i will be back for a refund and monday and they said that was fine and offered me a sparco 1 for £72.87
