Mk1 Brake issue (scratching noise)

Hi,

Recently my brakes have been making a scratching noise (mk1 1.2) sounds a bit like metal on metal, but because it has only be happening recently could it be ice on the discs?

I have a feeling it is likely to be that the pads have worn, but I only had them replaced almost exactly a year ago along with the discs should they last longer?

If they have gone what pads should I buy to replace them with, as I would rather get them from halfords and get my mate to help fit them then get ripped off by some garage..

Whip a wheel off and have a look....

Good plan.

But should new pads last longer than 12 months, I have done about 6k on them and I engine brake.

You might have something stuck between disk and pads.
