Mk1 Clio steering column U J joint help please

Hi does anyone know how to check the steering U J joint to see if it needs welding?? Help would be greatly appreciated.

just wiggle the steering wheel from side to side and see if theres play in it.

Thanks, but how much play is acceptable? i mean should it feel solid as soon as it moves a tiny bit?

Shouldn't be any play in the joint. I got the one on my Williams welded up over a year ago and it still feels good.

Nah just got it welded in the car.
