mk1 engine conversion

Car  clio 172
Hi Guys, I have fitted a spare 172 engine we had into a mk1. As you know the mk 1 has a distributor and the 172 in electronic. Has anybody done this already. I have the complete looms for both cars and guess I need some of each. Can I fit a stand alone ECU and not have to wire anything inside the car (ech etc) dos anybody know or have a diagram of how to do this ??? Heeeelp.

Standalone ecu will be grand or ph1 172 ecu and wiring loom for simple wire up. On both setups you will need ph1 cable throttle setup.

Thanks Brigsy, we have both cars so I guess wiring mods it is then.Have cable set up already as donor car is phase 1.

I think you might need to get the immobiliser done on ph1 ecu but not 100%, somebody will be able to advise. Apart from that fairly easy to wire up, seen a few r5gtts fitted with ph1 setup.

Just seen this too

All depends what you want from the car. Keeping stock interior you can decode the original ecu and relatively easily splice the 172 engine loom to the mk1 interior loom.

My conversion is more straightforward, as it's a track car I simply transplanted everything from the mk2 phase 1 into the mk1 shell, so all wiring and as such everything original works within reason (stripped out all unneeded crap as track car) and spliced the lights to the 172 loom
