Mk1 Heater controls

Hey
has anyone tried to convert the heater control on a MK1 to blue?
took for the clock i had to get parts off an older model. but the heater dials. dont seem to turn out that great

any help?

hmm basically... if i put a blue led in the place of the bulb its not bright enough and you cant see anything at night.
obviusly the blue light does not penetrate the front as the bulb used too..

err yeah hard to explain. lol

Is there not something in the way covering the bulb ?? Maybe you have to remove it ? (do I make any sense ?)

The standard tint (of orange) comes from a film on the plastic channels. So using blue led's wont give the desired effect without stipping the controls and getting rid of the film.

That's the sort of thing I was talking about. I couldn't remember much about mk1's though

hmm well striped the controls. but there wasnt a film lol. unless it was in between 2 layers.

looks like i need a new set of controls now

Exactly what happened with me fella, i tried the same thing and found it impossible because by trying to pull away the orange film (under the front panel) it strips all the icons and logos etc. Dont know how its done so i just went back to orange. Rage16v is sellin some heater controls mate.
