MK1 Ph1 Dual Optics Headlight Conversion Trouble

Got some really helpful advise from Shaun aka The Big Yin for the conversion of stn mk2 ph1 headlights to dual optics, however the low beam dash indicator stopped working and high beam indicator stays on whether I select low or high beam. In addition, I also experienced the problem of not being able to get both low & high beam working at the same time. Tried the fuse fix, but the only empty fuse slot (high beam icon) doesn't like having a fuse in it as once fused the high beam function fails all together! There is another fuse slot with a low beam icon on it, but the slot appears to be empty and won't take a fuse. Before I hack my way through the dashboard and pull out the entire fuse box, just wanted to know if anyone else had this problem with the dual optics conversion on a mk2 ph1 model? Btw mine is a 1.6 manual rxe. Comments will be much appreciated!

Hi, had same prob with my angel eyes! apparently renaults with the H4 bulb fitment arent wired to have the the dipped and main beam on at the same time, if you upgrade to dual optics! i had to get mine relayed, cost me £60 plus some other wiring that needed doing! my car was a mkII phI 1.2! hope this helps!

Mine had H4 from standard and the ekstra fuse worked in mine when i mounted my double optik lights.......Never had any trouble. It´s a 1,6 8v from -99

somethings not wired up properly. i had the problem, try swapping the wires around....

Ive done the conversion on mine, first of all you can get a wiring adapter made by hella from renault or hella which converts the wiring from the h4 bulb to power the h7 and hb3. However you can make you own adapter using a wiring diagram. All you need to do is split the existing earth wire into 2 for 2 bulbs then the high beam wire to the h7 bulb and the low beam wire to the hb3 and earth them both. Then of course you need to fit a red fuse into the box to make the blubs stay on together, when I get home tomoz i can give you the wire colours and the exact fuse location. If your having problems it maybe due to crossed wires or they maybe wired the wrong way round.

Thanks for all the comments! After some extensive trial and error I managed to get the lights working properly. Looks like the dipped lights need two wires going into them in addition to the earth!? Not very wise when it comes to these sort of things so fingers crossed that the bulbs won't suddenly blow while cruising on the motorway on a rainy night

Not sure what you mean veeron, both the bulbs (high H7 and low HB3) just need 2 wires, the feed and an earth. The feeds being from the original wiring for the H4 light and the earth being from the original earth of the H4 light split into 2.
