MK1 Steering lock jammed on

  ValverInBits
I've just had a call from a mate who is mega stressed out cos his Mk1 has jammed on the steering lock and he can't turn the key in the ignition.

I went through the obvious (turning the wheel while trying to turn the key) but he says that didnt work and the wheel is locked up quite tight.

Any suggestions guys?

bit of a bump.

Would disconnecting and reconnecting the battery solve it. I have no idea about steering locks myself

i had a similar problem with mine - i had to cut my key to get it to work eventually i will put a picture up and explain what i mean inabit i needa eat now

When the key is inserted does it go fully in or about 80% and stop. If it doesnt go all the way im 95% sure how to solve it but you will lose your steering lock unless you get a new ignition barrel etc..

he's fixed it now aparently.....well....i say fixed.
The boy got handy with a crow bar i think.
Although the key went all the way in the barrel was apparently ruined. So hes hot wired his own car and gone to get a new barrel.

Pretty easy to change the barrel, spose it could jam on normally just takes some rough jerks of the wheel!
