not really......the engines are pretty bullet proof if looked after.... the f7r/p versions anyway.

rust is main factor....arches.tailgate.sills

check www.williamsclio.co.uk out if u need more specialised advice.

The Energy lumps are bullet proof engines!

Can take some serious abuse and easy to maintain. These come in 1.2 and 1.4 varients. Also, as mentioned the F7 series are nice hard pulling engines with a nice engine note, but aren't as easy to work on as Energy lumps (being larger capacity and 16 valve)

All of them suffer from rusty arches and sills as well as leaking sunroofs, dodgy electrics and general bits falling off.

If it's your first car go for a 1.4 RT. Not too bad speed wise for a 1.4 and the interior is comfy, plus thy have a few electrical goodies. Stay away from the 1.8RT as these are five door only and although the engine is strong, it only produces 95BHp and isn't as revvy as the 1.4.

I had a 1.4 RT for about 14 months and it was a great little car. Stood up to some abuse but never let me down once. Bought the car for £230 as a write off, drove it for 8 months with the head gasket blown and she still ran and ran!

For £1000 you could get a minter of a 91-96 year model.

Is that the D7f engine....same as mine..

What have you done with the 'air cleaner' bit, and the filter? Does it even have a filter now?

That day when i took the pik i gave it a full service so had the filter out. I then put a pair of tights over the air intake pipe for better engine noises. got told it wont do any help so i quickly got a proper air filter on..

Not given it a clean in a while (engine bay) but you get the idea!
(the weather today is crap isnt it...)

I once (for some bizarre reason and in my naivity of youth) put a metal hose tubing to my MG Metro Turbo's turbo intake. All was fine until I finally discovered that the tights had been sucked into the turbo and was slowly dragging in the metal houses (uncoiling it) with it!

I do not recommend you do this for above reasons and not to mention the appalling filtration you will get (which will wear engine faster).

Also if any of you have airflow meters, then look for a 'dry' filter as K&N and other cotton/oil based filters allow a portion of the oil to contaminate the air flow meter (READ: Stick to/Coat it) and give a false reading. You can clean your air flow meters periodically with carb cleaner as it is solvent based :)

Lets just say that if Apexi made filters for Renault, then I would get one asap. (awesome filtration, awesome air flow)
