Mk2 1.2 Speedo

Car  1.2L 8v Clio
Hey
I have bought a 1.2 mk2 Ph1 clio as a first car for £900.
It is a good little car except the speedometer is way out... It says i am doing 55mph when i am actually doing 30mph.

I am a training mechanic and i know that the speedometer drive gear or the sensor must be replaced.

I just wanted to know whether it will be an easy job and how much it will cost me for the parts if i do it myself?

thanks

Have you tried using other clocks?

This happened on my PH2 but werent as wild as a 25mph difference.

I replaced the clocks and its worked fine ever since.

I havent no...
I shall try that before i spend money on the drive gear and sensor.
How much were the new clocks for you??

Was about £35 I think mate, they were off a higher spec car.

I've got a set of mint PH1 clocks with a silver fascia if you want to buy them, bought them for mine but didnt fit.

ooh ok thanks...

I am personal friends with someone who works at the car company CES, so i think i could probably get some for pretty cheap... thanks for your offer anyway

my speedo stopped working, my dad changed the sensor and it was really easy to do.

my whole dash stopped working.
got another from a scarppy. just swapped em.
easy job. just stripping the dash takes abit of time.
